Ingredients
- 3 tablespoons salted butter softened
- 1/2 cup creamy peanut butter*
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 10 ounces dark chocolate melting wafers
Instructions
- Mix the peanut butter filling. Grab a large bowl and combine your softened butter, peanut butter, and powdered sugar. Use a spoon (or your hands if you’re feeling bold) to mix until smooth. The dough should feel soft but not sticky—almost like Play-Doh!
- Roll into balls. Scoop out about a tablespoon of the peanut butter mixture and roll it between your palms to form a smooth, round ball. Aim for 1-inch balls for that classic Buckeye look. Place each one on a wax paper-lined baking sheet.
- Add toothpicks and chill. Stick a toothpick into the center of each ball (this will be your dipping handle) and pop the whole tray into the fridge or freezer for about 30 minutes. Chilling ensures the balls stay firm when dipped into warm chocolate.
- Melt the chocolate. Follow the package instructions for your melting wafers. Usually, a quick zap in the microwave in 20-second intervals, stirring between each, does the trick. Keep the chocolate smooth and warm but not too hot.
- Dip the Buckeyes. Remove your chilled peanut butter balls from the freezer and dip them into the melted chocolate. Leave a small circle of peanut butter visible at the top to keep that classic Buckeye look. Shake off excess chocolate and return each ball to the wax paper.
- Set the chocolate. Once all the Buckeyes are dipped, chill them again for 15-20 minutes until the chocolate is completely set. If you’re feeling extra meticulous, you can smooth over the toothpick holes with your finger.
