This Hamburger Stroganoff recipe combines ground beef, creamy sauce, and egg noodles for a quick and comforting meal. Ready in under 30 minutes!

  • Total Time: 30 minutes
  • Yield: 4 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 oz Egg Noodles (about 170g)
  • 1 lb Ground Beef (454g)
  • 1/4 cup Butter (56g)
  • 1/4 cup All-Purpose Flour (30g)
  • 1 cup Beef Broth (240ml)
  • 1 1/4 cup Milk (300ml)
  • 1/2 teaspoon Garlic Powder (1.5g)
  • 1/2 teaspoon Onion Powder (1.5g)
  • 1/2 teaspoon Black Pepper (1g)
  • 3/4 teaspoon Salt (4.5g)
  • 1/4 cup Sour Cream (60g)

Instructions

1. Cook the Egg Noodles

Begin by bringing a large pot of water to a boil. Add a pinch of salt to the water and cook 6 oz of egg noodles according to the package instructions. This usually takes about 8–10 minutes, depending on the noodle thickness. Once the noodles are cooked, drain them and set them aside.

2. Brown the Ground Beef

While the noodles are cooking, heat a large skillet over medium heat. Add 1 lb of ground beef, and cook, breaking it apart with a spoon or spatula. Stir the beef until it’s fully browned and no pink remains, about 6–8 minutes. Once cooked, drain off any excess fat and transfer the beef to a plate. Set it aside for later.

3. Prepare the Roux

Using the same skillet (no need to wash it), melt 1/4 cup of butter over medium heat. Once the butter is fully melted, sprinkle in 1/4 cup of flour. Whisk the butter and flour mixture continuously for about 2 minutes. This will create a smooth roux, which is essential for thickening the sauce.

4. Make the Sauce

Slowly pour 1 cup of beef broth into the roux, whisking constantly to prevent any lumps from forming. Keep whisking until the sauce starts to thicken, which will take about 3–4 minutes. After the broth has thickened, gradually add 1 1/4 cup of milk, stirring continuously. Allow the sauce to cook for another 5–7 minutes until it becomes thick and creamy.

5. Season the Sauce

Once the sauce is smooth and creamy, season it with 1/2 teaspoon of garlic powder, 1/2 teaspoon of onion powder, 1/2 teaspoon of black pepper, and 3/4 teaspoon of salt. Stir well to ensure the seasonings are evenly distributed throughout the sauce.

6. Combine Beef and Noodles

Lower the heat to a simmer and add the browned ground beef and cooked egg noodles to the skillet. Stir until everything is thoroughly combined and heated through.

7. Add the Sour Cream

Finally, stir in 1/4 cup of sour cream. This will give the sauce its signature tangy richness. Mix until the sour cream is fully incorporated into the sauce.

8. Serve and Enjoy

Serve your delicious Hamburger Stroganoff hot. Pair it with your favorite vegetable side, like roasted broccoli or steamed green beans, and perhaps a slice of garlic toast for a complete and satisfying meal.

Notes

Serving and Presentation Ideas

For a visually appealing presentation, serve the Hamburger Stroganoff on a large, flat plate. Arrange the noodles in the center, and use a spoon to create a neat mound. Garnish with a sprinkle of fresh parsley or chives to add a touch of color. You can also serve this dish with a side of steamed green vegetables or a salad for added freshness.
